The organisations listed below all have web sites that are chockfull of information, and are committed to marine biodiversity and sustainable fishing. We fish-lovers are confused about which are the plentiful fish we can eat and which are the endangered fish that we should not eat.

These sites show us how to Have-our-(FISH)-cake-and-eat-it-too. Your choice does make a difference. Pass the lemon.

Eating Sustainable Seafood

The Fish List
The Fish List is a fast, easy-to-use tool that helps you make the best possible seafood choices. The Blue Ocean Institute, Environmental Defense, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium have joined together to create The Fish List based on their collective expertise and experience in making seafood recommendations.

Audubon's: Seafood Lover's Guide
Audubon's Living Oceans Seafood Lover's Guide's message is that consumers' decisions can encourage sustainable seafood. A great table of contents, you can download seafood cards and there is a link to Audubon home page.

Blue Ocean Institute
Blue Ocean Institute, based in Cold Spring Harbour, New York, is focused on building "a more inspired cultural atmosphere for ocean conservation through science, art, and literature." They research and evalute fisheries to help people confidently select, enjoy and discuss sustainable, healthy seafood. You can get smart about your seafood by downloading your own MiniGuide to Ocean Friendly Seafood from their site today.

Environmental Defense's: Seafood Selector
This is a tight site. It has a "search by fish" engine, a recipe of the week button and it allows you to dive deep into other fishy issues, such as "Health or Hazard" and "Troubled Waters".

Marine Stewardship Council
The British Based MSC helps responsible purchasing by labeling products from environmentally, sustainable fisheries.

Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood WATCH
Check out their "All-Fish List" and hook on to the latest scoop on over 35 fish species. The home of the down-loadable wallet-sized 'Seafood Card', a handy reference guide that ranks fish from "Best Choice" and "Caution" to "Avoid".

Seafood Choices Alliance
Are you in a fishy business? If so check them out. Their message is "Every thing we serve, everything we eat, has an impact on the environment."

Sierra Club of Canada
Check out The Sierra Club of Canada's Citizen's Guide to Seafood. Sierra's British Columbia Chapter is dedicated to conserving B.C.'s marine ecosystems by fostering conservation-based policies and practices that maintain ecological functioning, biological diversity, and species abundance.
