Environmental Defence
Environmental Defence works to protect the environment and human health. We research. We educate. We go to court when we have to. All in order to ensure clean air, safe food and thriving ecosystems. Nationwide. We focus on greening cities, protecting people from exposure to pollutants, and saving species-including endangered fish!

David Suzuki Foundation
The David Suzuki Foundation's Oceans and Fishing site provides useful Canadian information on aquaculture and sustainable fishing, with a focus on salmon and shellfish.

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre
Ocean Wise is a new program dedicated to making environmentally responsible seafood choices easy for consumers and restaurants alike. The Ocean Wise program will encourage restaurants to provide more sustainable seafood dishes and make it easy for diners to choose restaurants and dishes that have as small an impact on the oceans as possible.

The Living Oceans Society
This British Columbian organization publishes the 'must buy" Fish for Thought: An Eco-Cookbook, full of ratings, conservation tips and great recipes, such as Peter Gzowski's' Lazy Salmon on a BBQ. Buckets of other interesting info.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is the lead federal government department responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs in support of Canada's economic, ecological and scientific interests in oceans and inland waters.

Dalhousie University's Department of Oceanography
Dalhousie University's Department of Oceanography posts current research and past publications, including an article on the depletion of large marine fish - Dalhousie Biologists Provide Evidence That Only 10% of All Large Fish are Left in Global Ocean.

Sustainable Seafood
Sustainable Seafood is an Atlantic Canadian campaign that works to raise awareness of the destructive activities of bottom trawler fishing gear. Coordinated by the Ecology Action Center, the campaign suggests sustainable methods of fishing like bottom hook and line gear and provide a list of restaurants, suppliers, and better seafood choices for Halifax, Nova Scotia.
